About this role
In this role, you will serve as the principal client-side electrical authority on site, supervising EPC contractors through heavy construction, testing, pre-commissioning, and energization. You will bridge high-voltage design reviews with physical site installation—ensuring every transformer, switchgear, and safety control system is installed to exact specifications. The Tech Stack Deep-Dive Power Distribution & Substation Infrastructure Must-Haves: MV/LV switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), power transformers, distribution boards, UPS systems, DC systems, battery chargers, emergency generators, earthing/bonding, and lightning protection systems. Nice-to-Haves: Substation automation interfaces, specialized loading/unloading electrical feeds, and firewater pumping systems. Hazardous Area, Testing & Protection Systems Must-Haves: Hazardous area classification, Ex equipment installation, cable glanding, cable insulation resistance/continuity testing, protection relay testing, CT/VT testing, and circuit breaker testing. Nice-to-Haves: CompEx or IECEx certification, NFPA 70E training, or advanced protection relay testing certification. Codes, Standards & Governance Must-Haves: IEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, API, ATEX, IECEx, and SANS electrical standards. Nice-to-Haves: Professional registration with ECSA or previous Owner’s Team / PMC execution experience. Key Responsibilities (Keep it brief) Onsite Testing & Energization Supervision: Witness and sign off on critical electrical hold points, including motor solo runs, protection relay tests, transformer testing, and formal system energizations. EPC Engineering & QA/QC Review: Critically review contractor single-line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Method Statements, and termination drawings. Safety & Handover Management: Direct Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols and electrical isolations, resolve technical queries (RFIs/NCRs), manage punch lists, and build complete handover dossiers.
