Senior VoIP Engineer | Potchefstroom (Hybrid/Remote) | Permanent We're looking for a Senior VoIP Engineer ready to take ownership of voice architecture and telephony strategy for a growing wireless internet service provider with operations across multiple regions in Southern Africa. This is a chance to build, structure and lead a newly established VoIP function from the ground up — combining hands-on systems engineering with real business impact. About the Role: This is a strategic, high-visibility position responsible for designing, building and scaling core voice architecture — including servers, PBX platforms, softswitches and SIP trunks — while shaping the business models, product offerings and service delivery strategy for voice services across the organisation's operating regions. Key Responsibilities Build, structure and lead the VoIP function; define product roadmaps, service pricing strategy and regional expansion plans Architect, deploy and maintain core PBX platforms, voice servers, Session Border Controllers (SBCs) and SIP trunking infrastructure Mentor, manage and scale a team of VoIP engineers and specialists across regional markets Collaborate with core network engineers to optimise QoS, VLAN routing and firewall management for low-latency voice delivery Act as the final escalation point for complex voice network issues; oversee system monitoring and reporting What You'll Bring Proven experience building or leading a technical team, with strong understanding of voice service business models, strategy and vendor management Deep expertise architecting and building voice servers, softswitches, SBCs and PBX systems (e.g. Asterisk, FreePBX, Kamailio, or proprietary enterprise platforms) Expert-level knowledge of SIP, RTP, WebRTC, TCP/IP, QoS, VLANs, routing and firewall configuration for voice traffic Prior experience in an ISP or telecommunications environment, ideally with exposure to African regional network landscapes Degree/Diploma in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience; certifications such as CCNP Collaboration, Linux/SysAdmin or advanced VoIP credentials advantageous Interested in shaping the future of voice infrastructure for a business scaling across the continent?
