A Heavy Engineering Manufacturer is seeking a Technical Buyer for their division in the Eastrand, mining background preferred: BASIC FUNCTION: - Responsible for the end-to-end technical evaluation and sourcing of equipment spare parts and components - Supporting the Procurement Department of both standard and alternative items as defined in supplier SLAs - Critical link between the Procurement and Engineering Departments to ensure technical requirements are accurately interpreted and fulfilled during the identification, sourcing and purchasing process QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: - Matric/Grade 12 - National Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering - CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) Level 4 - Minimum 3-5 Years experience in technical procurement within the mining sector - Experience sourcing and evaluating mining components, spare parts - Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, specifications and BOM’s - ERP system knowledge - Understanding OEM standards, mining industry safety regulations, and technical compliance - Strong analytical and technical evaluation abilities - Excellent communication and negotiation skills - Effective cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Aftermarket and Production teams - Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines - Willingness to travel for supplier meetings, sourcing missions and technical reviews - Ethical and transparent behaviour at all times. - Must be able to follow structured processes and respect cross functional boundaries KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Source and evaluate suppliers for new and alternative parts based on technical specifications and engineering requirements - Evaluations should be based on capability, quality certifications, cost competitiveness, lead time adherence etc - Maintain a category-based sourcing strategy for all technical commodities in your scope of work - Collaborate with the Engineering Departments to understand technical drawings, material specifications and product functionality to ensure accurate procurement - Conduct technical assessments of supplier offerings to verify compliance with company standards - Support the Procurement Team with complex technical purchases by providing detailed insights and verifications - Initiate and complete all RTD forms for the Procurement Department - Identifying cost-saving opportunities through alternative sourcing and vendor innovation - Establish and conform to Company and Supplier requirements according to ISO9001:2015 (current or latest certification standard) - Serve as the liaison between the Engineering and Procurement Divisions to resolve discrepancies or clarify product specifications - Assist in Supplier Audits and qualification processes from a technical standpoint - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of product developments, technical trends, and markets availability of parts and components - Prepare technical documentations and sourcing reports to support Procurement decisions - Always adhere to the Code of Ethics with all purchases DUTIES: - Project Based Sourcing and Execution - Technical Evaluation Specification Compliance - Alternative Sourcing and Obsolescence Management - Cross Functional Alignment - Supplier Technical Engagement - Cost and Lead Time Optimisation - Documentation and Reporting - Compliance and Risk Management - Supplier Development
