Hair Colour Packing Line Operator Temp - Gauteng - Alrode Reports To: Production Supervisor Purpose of the Role To operate and monitor the hair colour packing line, ensuring that products are packed safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards. The incumbent is responsible for machine operation, batch code changes, minor machine adjustments, size changeovers, quality inspections, and maintaining compliance with safety, GMP, and production requirements. Key Responsibilities Packing Line Operation Operate hair colour packing and cartooning equipment according to approved operating procedures. Ensure products are packed according to customer specifications and production schedules. Monitor line performance and identify operational issues affecting productivity or quality. Perform start-up, shut-down, and routine operational checks on equipment. Ensure correct product components are available before commencing production. Machine Setup and Changeovers Perform size changeovers and basic machine setup adjustments to accommodate different product formats and pack sizes. Change batch numbers, manufacturing dates, expiry dates, and coding information as required. Verify the accuracy of all coding and printed information before production starts. Conduct line clearances before and after product changeovers. Assist maintenance personnel during major equipment adjustments and repairs. Quality Responsibilities Perform routine quality inspections throughout the packing process. Verify correct packaging materials, labels, leaflets, cartons, and product components before use. Monitor product appearance, fill levels, coding accuracy, carton integrity, and overall pack quality. Immediately isolate and report non-conforming products and packaging materials. Complete all required production and quality documentation accurately. Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), quality standards, and standard operating procedures. Safety, Health and Environmental Responsibilities Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) requirements. Wear and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Report unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, incidents, and near misses immediately. Follow lockout and machine safety procedures where applicable. Maintain excellent housekeeping standards around the packing line. Ensure workstations remain clean, organised, and free from hazards. Participate in safety training, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement activities. Production Performance Achieve production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards. Minimise downtime through effective machine monitoring and quick response to minor faults. Reduce waste and product losses by following established operating procedures. Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvements and increased line efficiency. Minimum Qualifications Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate. Basic mechanical aptitude. Ability to read and complete production documentation. Knowledge and Skills Experience operating packaging machinery. Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills. Ability to perform size changeovers and machine adjustments. Knowledge of GMP and quality standards. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
