A leading pharmaceutical company has a vacancy for a Supply Chain Head. Job Purpose: To drive strategic and operational management of the company’s distribution and supply operations, ensuring the right products are available at the right time, in the right quantities and in compliance with the relevant pharmaceutical quality and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities: Supply & Demand: Lead the end-to-end supply planning process to ensure product availability. Partner with Commercial/Sales teams to translate forecasts and market demand into supply requirements. Monitor demand versus actual sales and identify supply risks. Develop contingency plans for potential shortages, delays and supply disruptions. Optimise inventory levels while maintaining agreed service levels. Distribution & Logistics: Oversee the distribution of products to customers, wholesalers, distributors and other relevant channels. Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs), warehouses and distribution partners. Ensure efficient and cost-effective product movement throughout the supply chain. Monitor delivery performance and resolve service issues. Inventory Management Establish appropriate inventory strategies and stock policies. Monitor stock levels, slow-moving and obsolete inventory. Minimise stock-outs while controlling excess inventory. Lead initiatives to improve inventory turns and working capital. Ensure appropriate management of short-dated and expired stock. Commercial Collaboration Work closely with Sales and Marketing to understand product demand, launches, campaigns and changes in market requirements. Provide visibility of stock availability and potential supply constraints. Ensure distribution and supply activities comply with applicable pharmaceutical legislation, company policies and Good Distribution Practice (GDP) requirements Manage the complexities and demands across supply planning, forecasting, inventory management and execution within the Private, OL, State and ZAZIBONA markets. Improve inventory - provide focus on inventory optimisation, forecasting accuracy, stock availability, supply continuity and the appropriate management of inventory levels across the portfolio. Strengthen coordination between the South Africa business, GDSO, manufacturing sites and distribution partners to improve planning and ensure timely delivery. Skills and Competencies: Demonstrates strong communication skills in English with ability to efficiently and productively communicate orally and in writing Demonstrates strong industry knowledge (including awareness of competitor products and services) and strong commercial acumen Displays strong organizational and time management skills; multi-tasks effectively; Applies sophisticated analytical skills Takes initiative and acts pro-actively, enthusiastically and creatively Examines and understands issues from multiple perspectives or points of view, readily sees interrelationships and cause and effect relationships; takes a systematic approach to successfully resolving all issues Communicates effectively at all levels both internally and externally Works effectively in cross-functional teams – Functionless Environment Role model for others in line with Values Education: BCom Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Management or related Requirements: Minimum 8-10 years’ relevant supply-chain experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry Atleast 5 years’ experience in a senior management/ leadership role Proficiency in English, both oral and written communications Financial and budgeting skills and experience Experience managing distribution, inventory and supply operations Digital literacy (MS Office programs) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage healthcare professionals.
