THIS POSITION IS A FIXED TERM CONTRACT POSITION A heavy fabrication manufacturing concern in JHB South is seeking a Junior Assembler to assist with the mechanical assembly and preparation of structural components used in heavy equipment manufacturing and repair operations. The Junior Assembler supports the assembly team by performing basic layout preparation, part handling, grinding, measurement assistance, and general workshop tasks under the guidance of experienced assemblers and supervisors. The role focuses on developing foundational fabrication and assembly skills while ensuring all work is carried out safely and in accordance with workshop procedures. Education & Training Requirements: Minimum Grade 9/NQF Level 1 Ability to read, write, and communicate in English Basic numeracy and measurement ability Willingness to learn fabrication and assembly techniques Knowledge & Experience: Previous workshop or mechanical experience advantageous but not required Basic understanding of tools, measurements, or fabrication environments beneficial Willingness to learn structural assembly processes in an industrial workshop setting Key Responsibilities: Assembly Support: Assist assemblers with positioning and handling of structural components. Support layout and alignment activities during assembly tasks. Perform basic grinding and cleaning of parts prior to assembly. Assist with securing components during fit-up and preparation for welding. Material Preparation: Identify and sort parts according to drawings or supervisor instructions. Assist in verifying part numbers, sizes, and orientation prior to assembly. Prepare surfaces and components to ensure clean interfaces for assembly work. Measurement Assistance: Assist in measuring components using tapes, rulers, and gauges. Support layout verification and dimensional checks under supervision. Report measurement discrepancies or material defects to senior team members. Workshop Operations: Operate basic hand tools and power tools used during assembly tasks. Maintain clean and organised work areas in accordance with workshop standards. Perform pre-use inspections on tools and equipment. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and workshop rules. Maintain safe working practices during material handling and tool use. Immediately report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment.
