Join a prestigious firm with a track record of being exceptional, but manage the trade mark function independently. You will advise both local and international portfolios, and handle a mix of prosecution, disputes, agreements and broader IP work. Duties / Key Responsibilities Manage the trade mark function independently and oversee client portfolios. Conduct trade mark clearance and availability searches and provide strategic advice. Handle local and international trade mark applications, prosecution and registrations. Manage renewals, assignments, amendments, recordals and related portfolio matters. Advise clients on trade mark, copyright and broader IP protection and enforcement. Handle opposition, cancellation and other contentious trade mark proceedings. Assist with High Court matters relating to intellectual property disputes. Draft and negotiate IP agreements, including licences and coexistence agreements. Manage company name objections, domain name matters and related disputes. Research complex IP issues and prepare clear, commercially focused legal opinions. Build trusted client relationships and provide practical, responsive legal advice. Requirements Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa. Successful completion of SAIIPL Trade Mark Examinations Group 1 and Group 2. At least 2 years' post-admission experience focused on intellectual property and trade marks. Strong experience managing trade mark portfolios and advising on IP protection strategies. Solid exposure to trade mark prosecution, enforcement and contentious matters. Able to manage multiple matters independently while meeting deadlines. Education LLB degree. Admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa. SAIIPL Trade Mark Examinations: Group 1 and Group 2. Soft Skills Strong written and verbal communication. Excellent legal drafting, analysis and problem-solving skills. High attention to detail and sound professional judgement. Organised, dependable and comfortable taking ownership. Strong client and relationship-management skills. Commercially minded with a practical approach to legal advice. Able to work independently while still contributing positively to a team. Salary The salary is open for discussion. The offer will be market related based on qualifications, skills, and experience.
