Electrical & Automation Engineer Location: Citrusdal, Western Cape Industry: Agriculture / Citrus Reports to: Head of Engineering Purpose of the Role A well-established, vertically integrated citrus producer, packer and exporter in the Citrusdal Valley is seeking a practical and experienced Electrical & Automation Engineer to join its engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and improving the electrical, pump, automation and energy systems that underpin the organisation’s water supply, irrigation and production operations. The role combines project management, maintenance, automation, operational support and team leadership across multiple sites. Key Responsibilities Lead the planning, design, specification, technical evaluation and delivery of electrical and automation projects. Oversee electrical infrastructure across farms, pump stations, workshops and support areas. Manage renewable energy projects, energy data, budgets and remote monitoring systems, while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Coordinate Eskom-related supply, metering, outage and upgrade matters. Provide electrical and basic mechanical support for pumps, motors, drives, valves and related equipment. Develop and support PLC, VSD, SCADA, telemetry, instrumentation, control-panel and system-integration solutions. Manage contractors, technical drawings, specifications, budgets, schedules and commissioning records. Ensure electrical safety and compliance requirements are maintained. Lead the electrical irrigation team through work allocation, progress monitoring, quality control, training and coaching. Oversee the response to breakdowns, investigate recurring faults and implement improvements to reduce downtime and enhance system reliability. Requirements National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology or a related field. Practical electrical installation, maintenance and fault-finding experience in an industrial, agricultural or similar environment. Good knowledge of motors, pumps, protection, distribution, control panels, VSDs, instrumentation and electrical drawings. Proven ability to manage projects, contractors, priorities and stakeholders across multiple sites. Strong problem-solving, communication and record-keeping skills. Valid driver’s licence. Beneficial Experience Practical mechanical experience with pumps, pipework, valves and rotating equipment. Experience with solar PV, energy management, generators, battery storage, grid connections or power-quality improvement. Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, telemetry, IoT, automation and remote-monitoring systems. Familiarity with Pragma or similar maintenance-management software. Experience with SOP development.
