Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Butler / House Manager to act as the principal representative within a prestigious private residence. This role works closely with the existing household team, including housekeepers, estate staff, the financial manager, chef, and maintenance and gardening teams. This is a live-in position with accommodation provided. Location: Southern Suburbs, Cape Town Position : Permanent | Live-in Key responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day running of the household and supervise domestic staff Lead by example and assist with household duties when required Plan staff schedules and ensure high housekeeping standards Prepare and oversee formal table settings and silver service for dinners and events Care for silverware, fine china, antiques and delicate fabrics Identify maintenance issues, obtain competitive quotations and coordinate contractors Manage household budgets, expenditure and accurate monthly record keeping Source and vet suppliers in collaboration with the estate team Coordinate travel arrangements, reservations and guest hospitality Welcome and attend to in-house guests residing on the estate Assist with the care and travel compliance of household dogs, including vaccinations and documentation Compile detailed weekly progress reports, including photographs where required Attend senior staff meetings and contribute to the smooth operation of the estate Minimum requirements Proven experience as a Butler and/or House Manager within a luxury private household Exceptional references and a high level of integrity Strong leadership and staff management ability Excellent English communication skills Experience with formal dining etiquette and silver service Sound administrative, budgeting and organisational skills Ability to work independently and use initiative High attention to detail with a professional, discreet and confidential approach Valid driver's licence with confidence driving luxury vehicles Comfortable living on the property and working within a collaborative household environment Genuine love for animals, particularly dogs Key personal attributes Impeccable presentation and manners Highly adaptable and resilient under pressure Proactive with the ability to anticipate household needs Respectful, trustworthy and able to maintain absolute confidentiality Willing to be hands-on whenever required
